Farmington, CT-With the delivery of a Trumatic L 6050 laser cutting system powered by a 5kW TLF 5000 CO2 laser, TRUMPF logged in the 10,000th installation of this laser since 1985. The milestone installation is in a subsidiary of Avermann Maschinenfabrik located in Ichtershausen-Thörey, Germany. Shown in the photo is Holger Hunstock, managing director of the company, speaking at the celebration marking the 10,000th laser installation. This sytem installation is the eighth at Avermann.

TRUMPF began producing laser cutting systems in 1979 and developed and introduced the TLF line of lasers to power these cutters in 1985. The TLF was one of the first RF excited CO2 lasers in the global market. At IMTS this year TRUMPF showed a 10,000W TLF which, remarkably, is in a package only slightly larger than the original 1kW unit. One would have to agree that the company’s goal of building a compact, rugged, reliable unit has certainly been verified, as 10,000 units attest. Interestingly TRUMPF delivered the 9,999th TLF unit, this one a 12kW, to Posco, a South Korean steel manufacturer, where it will be used in a tailored blank welding application. -DAB
