Alpes Lasers Launches RF-HHL Laser Module with Modulation up to 300 MHz

St-Blaise, Switzerland – 2026 – Alpes Lasers SA, a Swiss engineering company pioneering advanced mid-infrared light sources and a leader in Quantum Cascade Laser (QCL) technology, announces the launch of its new RF-HHL Laser Module.

This new packaging option for Alpes Lasers’ flagship QCL and ICL products delivers an order-of-magnitude improvement in modulation speed compared to standard HHL packaging, enabling amplitude modulation up to 300 MHz (−3 dB cutoff).

High-Speed Modulation in a Compact HHL Platform

The RF-HHL Laser Module is a compact mid-infrared laser system designed for fast amplitude modulation (AM) via a standard SMA connector. It provides precise control of output power and modulation amplitude while maintaining the robustness and thermal performance of the proven High Heat Load (HHL) housing.

Each module integrates:

·       Thermoelectric cooler (TEC)

·       Thermistor

·       Collimating optics

·       Efficient heat management for demanding environments

The system is compatible with multiple laser configurations, including:

·       DFB lasers

·       High-power lasers

·       Comb lasers

This flexibility allows optimization according to specific application requirements.

Exceptional Frequency Response

The RF-HHL module offers a −3 dB cutoff frequency above 300 MHz, significantly extending the modulation capabilities of mid-infrared semiconductor lasers in HHL packaging.

Measured frequency response shows that amplitude modulation remains detectable well into the multi-GHz range beyond the nominal cutoff frequency. Although modulation depth decreases progressively, the system maintains more than 20 dB of dynamic range relative to background pick-up signals.

This extended bandwidth confirms the module’s suitability for high-frequency and fast-response applications.
