Modulight Launches ML6600-Based Mid-IR Laser for Medical, Aerospace, and Remote Sensing Applications
Tampere, January 19th, 2026 - Modulight announces the launch of its ML6600-based mid-infrared laser system, ML6615, operating in the 2.7–3 µm wavelength range. This new product expands Modulight’s fiber laser portfolio into high-power mid-IR solutions, addressing critical needs in medical, aerospace, and industrial applications.
Operating in the 2.7–3 µm range, the ML6615 laser delivers up to 10 W of output power and supports both CW and QCW modes with millisecond pulses, ensuring versatility for diverse applications. Thanks to the robust ML6600 platform, the mid-IR laser system is housed in familiar and compact package, making it suitable for integration into space-constrained environments. Besides the small size, the ML6600-based system offers superior beam quality, enabling more precise energy delivery and improved efficiency in demanding applications compared to widely used Er:YAG lasers.
For medical and surgical applications, the strong water absorption at 2.7–2.9 µm allows precise soft tissue cutting with minimal thermal damage, making it ideal for soft tissue and dental treatments. In industrial settings, the laser interacts efficiently with polymers and certain glasses and ceramics, enabling clean cutting, welding, and micro-machining. In aerospace and remote sensing, the system opens possibilities for specialized applications such as humidity and remote sensing tasks.
