Tabletop system offers fluorescence CT for in vivo small-animal imaging

June 11, 2014
TriFoil Imaging has announced the launch of the first tabletop systems for in vivo molecular small-animal imaging to offer full 360° computed tomography.

TriFoil Imaging (Chatsworth, CA) has announced the launch of the first tabletop systems for in vivo molecular small-animal imaging to offer full 360° computed tomography (CT; in-line or standalone) along with options for 3D optical tomography—or positron emission tomography (PET) or single-photon emission computed tomography (SPECT) modalities. The modular InSyTe series offers flexibility in a compact, lower-cost device: The system can be purchased with a single modality at the start and upgraded later to incorporate CT. It has a simple, consistent user-friendly interface for image reconstruction and co-registration across all modalities.

TriFoil purchased its optical technology, called fluorescence emission computed tomography (FLECT), from Bioscan Inc. in September 2013. The FLECT 360° tomographic preclinical optical imaging approach promises the only real option available for fluorescence tomography. TriFoil told BioOptics World that it has improved upon the acquired 3D optical tomography technology and incorporated it to give TriFoil’s benchtop system a fourth modality option. Available variations for InSyTe are FLECT—either with or without CT—or PET (also with or without CT), SPECT (with or without CT), or CT standalone.
