Bozeman, MT--ILX Lightwave donated $12,000 worth of laser diode instrumentation to the Weld research group at the University of California at Santa Barbara (UCSB).

Bozeman, MT--Laser diode test, measurement, and control company ILX Lightwave, a Newport Corporation Brand, donated $12,000 worth of laser diode instrumentation to the Weld research group at the University of California at Santa Barbara (UCSB). David Weld's team will use the precision equipment in their work exploring open problems in fundamental physics and many body quantum mechanics. ILX donated a laser diode controller, high-power laser diode driver, thermoelectric temperature controller, and laser diode mount.

Eric Corsini, who initiated and submitted the research proposal to ILX Lightwave, said, "We are honored to have been selected for the ILX Lightwave university donation program. The high stability laser driver and temperature control equipment being donated will enable us to further our development of innovative experimental techniques for cooling and controlling ultracold atoms and ultimately allow us to better pursue our goal of exploring fundamental physics and many-body quantum mechanics." Patrick Gale, ILX Lightwave product marketing manager adds, "We are pleased to have the opportunity to work with Dr. Weld and his research team. Our goal with the university donation program is to provide cutting edge equipment to colleges and universities so they can continue their mission of expanding frontiers of science and developing future generations of photonic researchers and engineers."

ILX Lightwave has donated up to $20,000 worth of equipment annually to colleges and universities. ILX will award another $20,000 worth of equipment in 2014 and is now accepting applications.
