Bozeman, MT--ILX Lightwave donated $10,000 worth of ultra-low noise laser diode instrumentation to the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign.

Bozeman, MT--Laser diode control, test, and measurement company ILX Lightwave donated $10,000 worth of ultra-low noise laser diode instrumentation to the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. Lynford Goddard, an assistant professor in the department of electrical and computer engineering, will use the equipment to enhance experimental research into an exciting and novel family of reflective photonic devices based on a distributed Bragg reflector in a micro ring resonator (DBR-MRR). ILX donated a new ultra-low noise laser diode current source, precision temperature controller, and laser diode mounts to aid in the research.

According to Goddard, "We are very excited to have been selected for the ILX Lightwave university donation program. The high stability laser driver and temperature control equipment being donated will enable us to begin a new investigation into environmental stabilization and ultra-low noise lasers." Patrick Gale, ILX Lightwave’s marketing manager, adds, "We are pleased to have the opportunity to work with Dr. Goddard. Our goal with the university donation program is to provide cutting edge equipment to colleges and universities so they can continue their mission of training future generations of photonic researchers and engineers."

Over the past five years, ILX Lightwave has donated $20,000 worth of equipment annually to colleges and universities. ILX will be again accepting applications through 2011 for another award in January of 2012.
