Industrial Laser Solutions (ILS) has been adding new members to its Editorial Advisory Board, filling vacancies created by retirements. As the Editor-in-Chief, I'm pleased to announce that Brian Victor has joined the Board, filling the slot created by the retirement of Tony Hoult. Brian, who is Director of Industrial Applications for nLight, has a strong background in developing industrial laser processes, and will also bring a fresh prospective on joining technology.
Brian gained a BS and MS in Welding Engineering from Ohio State University, the breeding ground for budding laser welding technologists. While there, he interned as a manufacturing engineer at a medical device company and an agricultural equipment manufacturer. After graduating, he specialized in laser processing at the Edison WeIding Institute (paint stripping), Laserline (high-power diode laser welding and brazing), and Therma (robotic welding and cutting).
Brian has published several papers on hybrid laser/arc welding, beam shaping for high-power fiber laser welding, high-speed welding for automotive applications, and high-brightness welding of steel. He has presented at ICALEO, AWS, EWI, and ALAW, as well as internationally in Russia and China.
For ILS, Brian will specialize in laser materials processing with emphasis on advances in joining.
