Industrial Laser Solutions expands editorial coverage in Europe

Entering 2019, about 10% of Industrial Laser Solutions' readers are located in what is loosely defined as the European Union (who knows post-Brexit where the UK will end up). In that region, the aforesaid UK (15%), Germany (25%), and Italy (28%) make up more than 50% of ILS readers. And not incidentally, these three also represent 40% of the region's gross domestic product (GDP).
All of this is background for the addition of a new member to the ILS International Editorial Advisory Board. Dr. Andreas Thoss is now ILS editorial man-on-the-ground in this territory.
Andreas is well known throughout the region through his writings in Laser Technik Journal, Laser & Photonics Reviews, Laser Focus World, and the Journal of Biophotonics. At THOSS Media, he writes on photonics for various clients in industry and academia. He has also given courses for SPIE, OSA, and other organizations. He attained a PhD in in physics from the Free University Berlin, where he did his graduate research on ultrashort and ultra-intense laser pulses at the Max-Born-Institute Berlin. So, he is well aware of the USP laser's potential in industrial laser material processing, a technology of major interest in Europe.
ILS editor in chief David Belforte advises that Andreas is easily reachable at his office in Berlin, relative to editorial for ILS at +49-30-407 484 39/(0)30 49 00 16 08 or [email protected].

David Belforte | Contributing Editor
David Belforte (1932-2023) was an internationally recognized authority on industrial laser materials processing and had been actively involved in this technology for more than 50 years. His consulting business, Belforte Associates, served clients interested in advanced manufacturing applications. David held degrees in Chemistry and Production Technology from Northeastern University (Boston, MA). As a researcher, he conducted basic studies in material synthesis for high-temperature applications and held increasingly important positions with companies involved with high-technology materials processing. He co-founded a company that introduced several firsts in advanced welding technology and equipment. David's career in lasers started with the commercialization of the first industrial solid-state laser and a compact CO2 laser for sheet-metal cutting. For several years, he led the development of very high power CO2 lasers for welding and surface treating applications. In addition to consulting, David was the Founder and Editor-in-Chief of Industrial Laser Solutions magazine (1986-2022) and contributed to other laser publications, including Laser Focus World. He retired from Laser Focus World in late June 2022.
