• GSI Lasers launches JK100P

The JK100P, 100W Nd:YAG short-pulsed laser combines high peak power (10kW), short pulses (15-200us),and high repetition rates (2000Hz) to make this laser ideal for cutting thick sections of silicon wafers and other similar materials.

The laser also can be used for scribing or drilling holes and, due to the pulse regime, can enable high aspect ratio cutting in thick section silicon but eradicate micro-cracking that is usually caused by excessive heat input.

Miyachi Unitek (Monrovia, CA) announced a new application--battery pack/tab laser welding. Pulsed Nd:YAG lasers are perfectly suited to address these battery tab and pack welding challenges. Already established in many other battery welding applications, pulsed Nd:YAG lasers are ideal for performing cost-efficient tab and pack welding with minimal heat input. They offer an extremely fast and flexible joining method capable of welding many spots in under a second. Nd:YAG lasers are perfect for joining high conductivity tab materials and orientating the welds to match the strength requirements with no limitation on weld diameter or proximity.
