Amada, Lumentum co-develop 3 and 9kW fiber lasers

Oct. 26, 2016
Lumentum and Amada will introduce jointly developed high-power fiber lasers for metal fabrication at the 2016 EuroBLECH exhibition.

Optics and photonics products maker Lumentum (Milpitas, CA) and metal processing tools specialist Amada Holdings (Amada; Kanagawa, Japan) will introduce jointly developed high-power fiber lasers for metal fabrication at the 2016 EuroBLECH exhibition being held October 25-29, 2016 in Hannover, Germany. There, Amada will unveil a laser cutting machine that incorporates a 9kW fiber laser developed with Lumentum.

Amada will also showcase new laser-based cutting and laser-based welding machine tools. Both include co-developed 3kW fiber lasers with unique beam control capability, which enable fast cutting and welding of thin-to-thick metals.

Higher-power lasers are differentiating elements in sophisticated machine tools that cut sheets of aluminum, steel, and other metals for manufacturing automobiles, aircraft, and appliances targeted at commercial and consumer markets. Higher-power lasers are increasingly used for welding, material deposition (cladding), and large-scale surface treatment applications.

Lumentum will also showcase its CORELIGHT series fiber laser products.
