Resonetics (Nashua, NH), which laser-micromachines polymers for the life sciences industry, has acquired laser micromachining solutions provider Mound Laser & Photonics Center (Kettering, Northamptonshire, England). Terms of the deal were not disclosed.
Currently, Mound Laser has 80 employees. The company plans to hire additional local workers, says CEO Tom Burns.
Although it will remain headquartered in Kettering, it will change its name to Resonetics in February 2016 "to allow time to educate current customers and make the necessary updates in their systems," he says.
The acquisition will allow Resonetics to expand beyond its current focus on polymers and glass to offer customers a broader array of solutions and material expertise. The company now has the world's largest capacity of ultrafast laser workstations serving the life sciences industry, and can offer customers redundancy with manufacturing sites in the Eastern, Western and Central US, officials say.
