February 4, 2008, Plymouth, MI and Hamburg, Germany--Rofin-Sinar Technologies, developer and manufacturer of laser beam sources and laser-based solutions, reported record financials in its first fiscal quarter of 2008 (the period ended December 31, 2007).

Net sales totaled $134.7 million for the first quarter, a 21% increase over the same quarter last year. The impact of the weakening U.S. dollar, primarily against the Euro, resulted in an increase in net sales of $11.1 million dollars.

"As expected the North American market experienced slower activity, however, the European and Asian markets remained very strong," said Günther Braun, CEO and president of Rofin-Sinar Technologies. "In addition, our acquisition of Nufern, which was completed in January, has added core fiber and fiber laser technology to our product and technology portfolio which should enhance the Group's future growth."
