DRS’s Image Contrast Enhancement (ICE) algorithm, available on the company’s Tenum 640 (top) and other of its cameras, is based upon the company’s patented Enhanced Multiresolution Local Area Processing (emLAP); DRS says that emLAP stably preserves the maximum visual content throughout the spectrum of the original sensor output with a user-definable degree of detail enhancement (lower images). EmLAP maps wide-dynamic-range sensor data into a clear lower-dynamic-range image sequence with smooth and stable transitions, including between dramatically different scene dynamics and temperature extremes.
