Bellingham, WA, and Tokyo, Japan--Japanese researchers in optics and photonics now have a new option for access to a large collection of literature in their field: SPIE and the Japanese Alliance of University Library Consortia for E-Resources (JUSTICE) have signed an agreement that allows access by opting-in consortia members to publications in the SPIE Digital Library.

The agreement provides for reduced rates for annual subscriptions, and represents a collaborative effort on the parts of SPIE and JUSTICE to increase readily available resources on light-based technologies for university students and researchers.

Researchers whose JUSTICE-affiliated libraries choose to participate in the license will be able to view or download any of the 370,000 journal articles and conference proceedings in the SPIE Digital Library.

JUSTICE, established in 2011, is a consortium resulting from the alliance between the Japan Association of National University Libraries Consortium (JANUL) and the Private and Public University Libraries Consortium (PULC). Their aim is to enhance coordination among the Japanese university library community by cooperating with publishers and vendors of e-resources.
