Bellingham, WA, August 6, 2003. SPIE-The International Society for Optical Engineering launched its Digital Library on 1 August 2003. The new SPIE Digital Library, available online at spiedl.org, is a comprehensive tool that provides researchers around the globe with unprecedented instant access to SPIE proceedings and journal papers.
One of the most extensive resources available on optics and photonics, the Library contains more than 70,000 full-text papers from SPIE journals and proceedings published since 1998. It also offers access to citations and abstracts for SPIE papers published since 1995. Approximately 15,000 new papers will be added annually and plans are underway to expand the content back to 1990 by the end of 2004. SPIE collaborated with host American Institute of Physics (AIP) to incorporate AIP's powerful search engine and excellent reliability into the SPIE Digital Library.
"As more and more researchers turn to the Web, it has become imperative that we provide online access to SPIE content," said Eric Pepper, SPIE Director of Publications. "Our main design goals for the SPIE Digital Library were ease of use, powerful search and browse tools, useful features such as e-mail alerts, and depth of digital archive. We are confident that users will find the SPIE Digital Library to be an essential resource."

* The ability to browse proceedings tables of contents and abstracts by year, volume, technology, symposium, and title
* Reference linking for journal papers published since 2001
* Advances search options and searchable papers
Individual subscriptions and site license are available. Annual individual subscriptions include 50 full-text papers for a member price of $125 and a non-member price of $195. Papers can also be purchased individually for $15.
