    The Department of Defense has awarded a $900,000 contract to Silicon Mountain Design (Colorado Springs, CO) to design and build a fast solid-state camera with image quality comparable to photographic film. The camera will be based on the company`s 1024 ¥ 1024 CCD-imager chi¥and will provide 10-bit gray-scale images at more than 1000 frames/s.     The Department of Defense has awarded a $900,000 contract to Silicon Mountain Design (Colorado Springs, CO) to design and build a fast solid-state camera with image quality comparable to photographic film. The camera will be based on the company`s 1024 ¥ 1024 CCD-imager chi¥and will provide 10-bit gray-scale images at more than 1000 frames/s. A new readout architecture permits low-light use even at high frame rates. Besides being used to analyze weapon flight dynamics, other applications include machine vision and motion pictures.
