Augat acquires fiberoptics business of Porta Systems
Moving to enhance its presence in the telecommunications industry, Augat Inc. (Mansfield, MA) has signed an agreement to acquire the fiberoptics products and technologies of Porta Systems Corp. (Syosset, NY) for an undisclosed sum. In addition to the production facility (Hopkinton, MA), the purchase includes the company`s fiberoptic-coupler patent portfolio, customer base, outstanding contracts, and fiberoptic-network management products. According to Porta, estimated sales for this business last year were roughly $6.5 million. Augat manufactures connectors and optical transmission products and reported revenues of $550 million last year. The Porta business will be folded into Augat`s Communications Products Division.
