Tellium to install optical network for US Department of Defense
Tellium Inc. (Edison, NJ) will install an advanced optical network to handle voice, video, and data traffic for US government agencies. The $2.5 million contract with the Department of Defense (DoD) is Tellium`s first contract since 1997, when it separated from Bellcore, the former research arm of the regional Bell operating companies, and became a commercial company. Tellium will install an optical ring network that will serve three sites around Washington, DC, starting in early 1999. The network will support wavelength-division multiplexing to transmit DoD information and test new fiberoptic network technologies.
