Co-founder of Guernsey Coating Labs acquires company
Ty Guernsey, the co-founder of Guernsey Coating Laboratories (GCL; Ventura, CA), has acquired the company, making it a 100% woman-owned business. GCL specializes in optical coatings covering the ultraviolet to the near-infrared wavelengths.
Guernsey, who founded the company in 1982, says, “Over the years, I have been fortunate to work with a dedicated staff, most of whom have been with me for more than 20 years. Our objectives are to continue our current product line of quality thin films while improving performance, making technological advances, and anticipating industry needs. Of the utmost importance is to keep the lines of communication open between Guernsey Coating Laboratories and our customers.”
GCL has eight ion-beam sputtering and physical vapor deposition chambers. The company provides a range of optical thin film services from R&D to high-volume runs including custom designs, evaluation and testing, and final production. Optical thin films available include BBAR, V-coats, dielectric high reflectors, beam splitters, metallic mirrors, and neutral density and dichroic filters. The company’s adjustable fixtures allow for handling of precision optics ranging from less than 0.25-6 inches and up.
