Michael Jansen joins Novalux as COO

December 20, 2004, Sunnyvale, CA--Novalux appointed Michael Jansen as its new chief operating officer. Jansen has more than 20 years of experience in the Photonics industry, and has served in executive management roles in several companies, including Coherent and Bandwidth9.

December 20, 2004, Sunnyvale, CA--Novalux appointed Michael Jansen as its new chief operating officer. Jansen has more than 20 years of experience in the Photonics industry, and has served in executive management roles in several companies. Prior to Novalux, Jansen was vice president of engineering at Coherent, where he was responsible for bringing numerous high power laser diode products to volume manufacturing, and spearheaded the development of Aluminum-free technology.

Prior to this, as senior vice president and general manager at Bandwidth9, Jansen was responsible for developing the company's core tunable laser and locker technologies, and rolling out its tunable transmitters. He was also co-founder and vice president of engineering at APT, a commercial high power laser diode startup, which became a Uniphase business unit. There he developed high power visible and infrared laser diode bars and fiber-coupled products.

In his new role as COO of Novalux, Jansen will oversee all of the company's operations. He will provide leadership in the continuing product expansion of the NECSEL Laser technology in the bio-photonics market and in the development of new products for display applications. Jansen holds B.S., M.S., and Ph.D. degrees in electrical engineering from the University of California, Los Angeles. He has authored more than 140 technical articles and presentations in the fields of semiconductor laser diodes, solid-state lasers, and solar cells, and holds 16 patents.
