Crescendo is first continuous-wave ruby laser

May 14, 2009
Klastech-Karpushko Laser Technologies will launch the Crescendo, its new ruby laser, at the World of Photonics Exhibition June 15 to 18 in Munich. The new DPSS laser provides continuous-wave (CW) output at the ruby wavelength, 693.4 nm.

The laser is also the first single-frequency, ultra-low-noise DPSS laser in the visible red region of the electromagnetic spectrum, opening up new possibilities to researchers in biophysics and DNA sequencing. The Crescendo will be available initially in 100 and 150 mW versions with plans to increase its power output to 500 mW in the near future. It produces a Pitch Perfect single longitudinal frequency (<1MHz line width) with a coherence length in excess of 100 m. The laser exhibits near-perfect Gaussian-beam performance coupled with better than 10 µrad/°C beam pointing stability and exceptional noise figures down to less than 0.05% rms. PRESS RELEASE

KLASTECH introduces the World's First Continuous Wave DPSS Ruby Laser

KLASTECH-Karpushko Laser Technologies GmbH, will launch its new ruby laser at the World of Photonics Exhibition in Munich this year.

The new DPSS laser, a world first, provides continuous wave (CW) output at the ruby wavelength, 693.4 nm. Christened the CRESCENDO the laser utilises the company's proprietary approach for pumping the ruby crystal and the same revolutionary DENICAFC Double Enhanced Laser Technology that is common to the other lasers in the KLASTECH range. It is the high second harmonic conversion efficiency offered by this proprietary design that has enabled this breakthrough in DPSS technology. This laser for the first time not only provides a ruby based CW source but also offers the first single frequency, ultra low noise DPSS laser in the visible red region of the electro-magnetic spectrum opening up new possibilities to researchers in bio-physics and DNA sequencing.

The CRESCENDO will be available initially in 100mW and 150 mW versions with plans to increase its power output to 500 mW in the near future. As is common with all KLASTECH DPSS lasers the unit produces a Pitch Perfect single longitudinal frequency (<1MHz line width) with a coherence length in excess of 100m. Optically the laser exhibits near perfect Gaussian beam performance coupled with <10 µrad/°C beam pointing stability and exceptional noise figures down to <0.05% rms. The DENICAFC Double Enhanced Laser Technology also enables the laser to be capable of output power modulation, whilst still maintaining the pump laser diode current unchanged, thus protecting the laser life and securing stable thermal operating parameters.

About DENICAFC Double Enhanced Laser Technology

Adopted universally across the KLASTECH laser range; DENICAFC Double Enhanced Laser Technology realises up to ten times greater 2nd harmonic conversion efficiency, especially when dealing with low input powers, as compared with other design architectures. Additionally it provides for locked single frequency operation at both fundamental wavelength and second harmonics, giving a truly Pitch Perfect output with no so called green noise, mode hops and zero fundamental wavelength glow. Inherently much more stable over temperature thanks to the proprietary patented intra-cavity frequency conversion technique and multi-point thermal management, the technology allows for unsurpassed beam pointing stability and reduced power consumption. Naturally producing single longitudinal mode laser light, of coherence length in excess of 100m, the technology broadens significantly the range of applications that cannot be met by diode based laser technologies and/or by conventional DPSS lasers.
