Industrial lasers debut at LASER World of PHOTONICS 2019
LASER World of PHOTONICS 2019, held June 24-27 in Munich, Germany, is the largest international trade fair serving the photonics industry. Organized by Messe München and held during odd-numbered years, the 2019 event welcomed a record 1325 exhibitors (up from 2017's 1293) from 40 countries, says Reinhard Pfeiffer, Deputy CEO of Messe München, as well as a record 34,000 visitors (2017: 32,700), according to Katja Stolle, Exhibition Director of LASER World of PHOTONICS.
Laser materials processing is a popular subject during the trade fair—three companies that exhibited told Industrial Laser Solutions about new industrial lasers they would be introducing at the show:
High-power femtosecond laser
The Tangor 300 femtosecond laser delivers average output power 300 W and pulse width <500 fs for use in applications such as laser texturing. The laser also has the ability to supply energy up to 1000 μJ per pulse and a repetition rate up to 40 MHz. It is capable of handling all types of materials, covering a surface of 100 mm2/s. The CARBIDE femtosecond laser from Light Conversion has uses in drilling and cutting of various metals, ceramics, sapphire, and glass, as well as material ablation for mass spectrometry. Updates to the laser include increased maximum repetition rate (now from 60 kHz to 2 MHz), the company's BiBurst technology, and the ability to quickly switch to the nanosecond operation regime while maintaining the same beam quality and parameters, eliminating the need for two laser sources if nanosecond application is required.

The Equinox single-frequency green laser from M Squared Lasers for industrial and scientific applications is a 532 nm continuous-wave (CW) laser. It can operate as a standalone 532 nm laser and as a pump source for titanium sapphire (Ti:sapphire) laser systems (CW and pulsed), as well as pumping dye lasers, frequency doubling and mixing, optical tweezers and trapping, and biomedical imaging. Features include up to 18 W output power; high mechanical and thermal stability, as its invar materials minimize effects from vibrations and thermal variations; simple integration with the company's SolsTiS Ti:sapphire laser and its range of extensions; and emote operation via TCP/IP/web interface.
