Adding modular laser cutting to offerings, Gerber Technology buys MCT Digital

Oct. 2, 2018
The addition of MCT's large-format laser cutting gives Gerber a key technology platform to serve its industrial markets.

Software and automation solutions provider Gerber Technology (Tolland, CT) has acquired MCT Digital (New Berlin, WI), adding modular laser cutting technology to its existing industrial-strength finishing solution hardware and software portfolio. The addition of MCT's large-format cutting builds on Gerber's experience in the sign and graphics and packaging industries, as well as gives Gerber a key technology platform to serve its industrial markets.

The two companies are both recognized as trailblazers in providing integrated software and hardware solutions. Gerber pioneered automated cutting in 1968 and the company continues to create an integrated design and production ecosystem of hardware and software in the apparel, home and leisure, and transportation markets.

Steen Mikkelsen, CEO of MCT Digital, was responsible for the introduction of today's print-to-cut workflow in the sign and graphics and packaging industries with his development of the company's i-cut software. In 2016, the company launched its current cutting system, including proprietary laser cutting technology.

The two companies plan to fully exploit high-speed digital printing, which continues to change many industries.
