For the past 25 years, Lissotschenko Mikrooptik (LIMO; Dortmund, Germany) has delivered technological progress for optical components, beam shaping solutions, and application-optimized laser and optics systems. The company employs 200 people from 13 countries, including 60 scientists and engineers, and its headquarters features over 2000m2 of cleanroom space and10,000 m2 for development, production, and application. It also maintains an international network of sales and service partners, as well as a branch office and company-owned application center in China.
The company, which specializes in laser beam shaping, holds nearly 300 patents and reinvests more than 10% of revenues in research and development. In addition to its numerous collaborations with research institutes, it also makes innovative contributions through participation in research networks for the European Union, the Federal Republic of Germany, and the German State of North Rhine-Westphalia.
Founded in Paderborn, Germany with just five employees in 1992, the company became well-known for refractive micro-optics by 1998. In 1999, it expanded the range of available products and services to include high-power diode lasers and beam shaping systems for all types of laser sources.
The company has also accomplished several milestones in the 21st century so far. In 2004, it developed its own line of laser technology for large surface area processing; in 2008, it received the German Business Innovation Award for its groundbreaking beam shaping systems based on freeform micro-lenses; in 2011, it introduced a pilot laser system for scalable large-area surface and coating finishing; and for the past five years, it has offered integrated beam shaping systems for the flat-panel display industry in production lines worldwide.
