Happy 4th: Laser ablating a holiday message

July 4, 2012
Enjoy the 4th of July holiday, with a laser-ablated message from JK Lasers.

Rugby, UK -- JK Lasers has a message to everyone celebrating the 4th of July holiday -- it's laser-ablated a patriotic message, which can be seen in a YouTube video.

The red and blue anodized aluminum plates (1 mm thick) were laser ablated with a 400 W single-mode continuous-wave fiber laser and scan head, at a scan speed of 3 m/sec (one pass). The result: the American flag and a message from the company, "Happy Independence Day from JK Lasers."

The company noted it has demonstrated laser ablation with trials using the JK400 FL laser to remove thermal barrier coatings (TBCs) on jet engines and gas turbines. Modulating the power enabled clean removal of TBCs, with an 8× increase in removal rates on stainless steel.

From Industrial Laser Solutions to our readers -- enjoy the 4th of July holiday.
