• Lasit USA announces portable desktop RotoTAB table system

    Oct 17 08 - Lasit USA (Branford, CT) has announced its newest generation RotoTab, the first compact, desktop 360° rotary dial table fiber laser marking system. The fully enclosed Class One system comes complete with a fiber, YVO4, Nd:Yag, or CO2 laser, galvo scan head, computer, and FlyX and FlyCad software.

    The software supports both vector and raster engraving of graphics, logos, alphanumerics, barcodes, 2D Data Matrix, and serialized numbers on plastics and metals. The software also includes diagnostic capability for remote troubleshooting.

    Electro Scientific Industries, Inc. (ESI; Portland, OR) and Zygo Corp. (Middlefield, CT) have entered into a definitive agreement under which the companies will merge in an all-stock transaction worth ~$173.5 million. The merger combines two photonics-based technology leaders, possessing complementary technologies and strong brand names—ESI as a global provider of photonic microengineering solutions, with Zygo as a provider of high-precision metrology solutions and optical systems.
