Additive manufacturing yields first fully integrated 'smart' golf club

Dec. 29, 2016
CES attendees will see the first fully integrated golf smart club made with additive manufacturing.

At the Consumer Electronics Show (CES; to take place January 5-8, 2017, in Las Vegas, NV), CRP Group (Modena, Italy) and CRP USA (Mooresville, NC) will showcase the first fully integrated golf smart club from Krone Golf (Hong Kong) made with additive manufacturing, which uses CRP Group's Windform composite material.

The golf club's head and grip integrate a dual 9-axis motion sensor, Launch Monitor, and a Professional Instructor, allowing it to detect inefficiencies in a player's swing through an app that results in measurable improvements. Set to be released worldwide in 2017, the golf club's components, including the rubber grip, were digitally manufactured by CRP in Windform materials.

Also at CES, CRP will show the KD-1, the world's most advanced and functional golf driver that uses Windform SP Advanced material with a precision CNC-machined titanium hitting surface. The KD-1, which was launched in late 2016, is a functional golf club also made in collaboration with Krone Golf. Additive manufacturing techniques, along with the use of Windform, have also improved the club's speed, precision, design, flexibility, and part optimization.

The two companies will also exhibit 3D-printed end-use and prototype parts built from Windform, as well as cutting-edge solutions made with direct metal laser sintering technology.
