VIENNA, AUSTRIA and BIRMINGHAM, ENGLAND – Jewelry maker Boltenstern and jewelry-making tools supplier Cooksongold have entered into a partnership in which Boltonstern is integrating Cooksongold's direct precious metal 3D printing know-how and EOS direct-metal laser sintering (DMLS) technology to produce a fully 3D-printed fine jewelry collection.

A necklace in Boltenstern's Embrace collection, produced using direct-metal laser sintering, is shown.

"Jewelry is architecture in its smallest form. It is only by thinking in multiple dimensions that we can create pieces that are incredibly complex, yet desirably simple," states Marie Boltenstern, Head of Design at Boltenstern. Coming from a background in architecture and specializing in computational design, Marie knows how to build algorithms that generate 3D shapes and jewelry collections with never-before-seen complexity.

"The Embrace collection embodies precious materials embracing colorful joy," Marie says. "The key element of the collection is a gemstone, woven into a fine structure of precious metal. The fragile cage protects the inner beauty of the tender and unique gemstone."

Combining platinum and 18-carat gold with precious stones allows for endless variations of custom creations (FIGURE). The collection includes bracelets, earrings, rings, necklaces, and cufflinks, with varying price points between €75 and €75,000. In assembly, the elements generate star, cloud, and flower patterns that, when combined, playfully move to add a new sensual experience to the jewelry.

Cooksongold is excited about Boltenstern launching the collection, which is directly 3D-printed in precious metal with the EOS Precious M 080 DMLS system. With a long history as a global supplier of directly 3D-printed precious metals in the Heimerle + Meule Group, Cooksongold has a deep understanding of handling and manufacturing precious metals and gemstones.
