Hauppauge, NY—The new Quantronix Infini-Pulse laser platform can combine any two Quantronix laser heads into a single housing and deliver the outputs in a single, colinear beam. Each laser head can be individually controlled on a pulse-by-pulse basis, making it possible to generate pulse pairs by delaying one of the laser triggers. This is of particular interest when done in conjunction with combining lasers of different wavelengths.
Combining wavelengths can create a favorable alternative to high-power UV or picosecond laser sources. Using a 6W UV/40W green Infini-Pulse system, the same process can be initiated with a UV pulse and followed nanoseconds later with a more powerful green pulse. The UV pulse initiates the processing and the high-power green pulse is absorbed by the plasma and does the work. Although a UV laser is still used, it is of lower power and hence higher reliability. The result is faster processing speeds from a lower cost, more reliable laser system.
