Santa Clara, CA--Coherent (NASDAQ:COHR) has acquired laser makers Innolight (Hanover, Germany) and Midaz Lasers (London, England), which together will enable commercial, low-cost, sub-nanosecond pulsed lasers for microelectronics manufacturing.

Innolight's short-pulse lasers are designed for industrial applications like silicon processing, while its continuous-wave lasers are used in scientific applications such as atom trapping. Midaz's technology enables simple amplifiers to be incorporated in a broad range of laser products. Together, the technologies will deliver compact, low-cost sub-nanosecond infrared (IR), green, and UV laser sources.
