Barrington, NJ--Responding to sustained customer growth and increasing demand, optical components maker Edmund Optics has opened their new global manufacturing, customer support, and distribution facility in Woodlands - Singapore. The new, 77,000-sq-ft building provides three times more manufacturing space than the old one; in it, the company expects to install advanced HVAC systems and increase their production capacity and customer support facilities. Their areas of focus in response to their growth and demand are the company's asphere capabilities and thin-film coatings, says Samuel Sadoulet, executive VP, engineering and manufacturing.
With the expansion, the company has more than doubled the coating space and invested in new coating equipment with load-locking capabilities, with expectation of a >20% increase in the plant's capacity. The company has also invested in an additional manufacturing cell for aspheric lenses, giving them the ability to grow with their customers and increase global production by more than 40% within the next 12 months.
