SemiNex Corporation's (Peabody, MA) Laser Engine integrated laser diode system suits manufacturers of high-volume medical and other low-cost, hand-held applications. The Laser Engine includes a high-efficiency laser, heat spreader, convection cooling device, and optical lensing element. Available in 1470-, 1532-, and 1550-nm wavelengths, it features a power conversion efficiency of 45% W/A, offering 3 W of continuous optical power from 6.5 A of input current. Additional features include a laser, cooling fan, and focusing lens, and two package options are available: the first integrates convection cooling, 40-mm length, 25-mm diameter, and a weight of 16 g, and the second is a conductively cooled package measuring 11 x 20 x 13 mm.
