Expanding Optical Cable Corp. crosses over into telecom
In a move that marks the firm?s entry into the telecommunications market, the Optical Cable Corp. (OCC, Roanoke, VA) has won a $13 million contract from an unidentified Japanese trading company to deliver 3000 miles of fiberoptic cable for long-haul telephony applications. Prior to this, OCC has focused on the short-haul data-communications and specialty markets. A 74,000-ft2 facility currently under construction will double OCC production space when it comes on-line at the end of the year, enabling the company to pursue telecommunications business. The company reported FY1996
second-quarter sales of $10.2 million, uٹ.2% from the 1995 figure; income for the same period rose 1.9% to $2.1 million.
