New Portfolio of Single-Frequency DBR and DFB Lasers and High-Power Tapered Amplifiers for Quantum and Precision Applications
December 29, 2025 - Tampere, Finland - Modulight announces the introduction of a new portfolio of single-frequency DBR and DFB lasers and high-power tapered amplifiers designed to meet the needs of broad range of advanced applications. These include quantum sensing, quantum computing, optically pumped magnetometers (OPM), spectroscopy, optical atomic clocks, precision metrology, and coherent control of atomic species manipulation involving rubidium, ytterbium, cesium, and other alkali and rare earth atoms.
The portfolio is offered in industry-standard packages designed for seamless OEM integration and minimal engineering overhead. Package options include TO-can with integrated TEC, as well as butterfly packages with either free-space collimated beam output or single-mode, polarization-maintaining fiber output with an integrated optical isolator.
The DBR and DFB lasers provide single-frequency, narrow-linewidth operation with excellent spectral stability. For applications requiring higher output power, the lasers can be combined with tapered amplifiers, delivering several watts of output power while preserving the spectral characteristics of the seed laser. Integration with the tapered amplifier is done through a fiber-coupled input.
The portfolio includes selected example configurations such as:
- DBR lasers at 770 nm, 780 nm, 785 nm and 795 nm, with output power of up to 200 mW
- DFB lasers at 1550 nm, with integrated mini-optical isolator and output power of up to 100 mW
- Tapered amplifiers at 935 nm, offered in a fiber-in, free-space-out configuration, supporting output powers of up to 3 W
Other wavelengths, power levels, and configurations are available upon request.
With vertically integrated manufacturing spanning from epitaxy to packaging, Modulight offers extensive tailoring options across wavelength, output power, and optical interfaces while ensuring optimal performance for the most demanding applications. “Our vertically integrated, industrial scale manufacturing with strong quantum and semiconductor supply chain security allows us to offer our customers a high degree of tailoring while maintaining performance and reliability,” states Kalle Palomäki, Vice President, New Product Introduction.
