Photodiodes are fabricated as 4-in. silicon wafers (top left), then cut into small pieces in a variety of package designs to meet specific requirements for mounting, environmental sealing, and the shape and dimensions of the exposed area. Among the designs shown here are a 40-element array mounted on a ceramic substrate with a flexible circuit connector (top center), a detector/filter combination (right, third from top with flexible orange circuit), a fully immersible UV detector (bottom left with black pigtail), and a 56-channel x-ray detector (left, second from top).
