Digital joulemeter for pulsed lasers from DUV to far-IR

March 9, 2009
Spectrum Detector has introduced a versatile 10-channel multiplexed digital joulemeter for pulsed lasers from DUV to far-IR.

The model MDJ10 digital joulemeter has 10 pyroelectric joulemeter probes, enabling it to measure pulse energy of a single laser at 10 places, or 10 lasers synchronized to one trigger. With a variety of energy detectors it can be used to measure from the deep-UV to far-IR, nJ to mJ, and 1 pulse to 400 pulses. It can act as a digital instrument platform for any number of multichannel energy- and power-meter applications and can be easily customized.

PRESS RELEASE

Spectrum Detector Introduces a Versatile 10 Channel Multiplexed Digital Joulemeter for Pulsed Lasers from DUV to Far IR.

Model MDJ 10 is designed to measure pulse energy with up to 10 Pyroelectric Joulemeter probes

Lake Oswego, Oregon, March 3, 2009 - Spectrum Detector, Inc., a leading manufacturer of laser diagnostic instruments, today introduced the MDJ10, a 10 Channel Multiplexed Digital Joulemeter. It is the first of its kind, designed to make pulse energy measurement of a single laser at 10 places, or 10 lasers synchronized to one trigger. It was originally designed to measure the spatial distribution of a single high energy pulsed laser, but can readily be used as a 10 channel pulsed laser test set for burn in and life test. It currently features the use of 10 Pyroelectric Joulemeter probes mated to flexible cables for unique positioning (shown in a linear pattern in the photo). It can easily be adapted to take Joulemeter probes of any size, and based on Silicon, InGaAs or Pyroelectric detectors. With a variety of energy detectors it can be used to measure from DUV to Far IR, nJ to mJ, and 1 pulse to 400 pps.

"The MDJ10 is truly unique and will act as a digital instrument platform for any number of multichannel energy or power meter applications" said Don Dooley, president of Spectrum Detector. "It was recently developed for a spatial diagnostic tool for pulsed CO2 lasers."

Each MDJ10 includes 10 detector channels, featuring a smart interface box that includes an EPROM for individual probe calibration data, fixed range amplifiers, a microprocessor and D to A for handy analog output. The MDJ10 comes with a basic stand alone LabView Applications program that displays the pulse energy of the 10 individual channels. It also includes LabView Drivers that support customer driven test software.

"The new instrument can be customized easily" Dooley continued "for unique laser test applications to measure pulse energy or power and will prove to be an economical solution for production test."
