September 1, 2005, Venice, CA--Bossa Nova Technologies is introducing a laser receiver for non-destructive testing applications in factory conditions. The device was developed with 2-1/2 years of funding awarded by the National Science Foundation in a nationwide effort to improve US manufacturing.

The new receiver uses a patented interferometric scheme based on the random processing of speckle patterns with high-speed detector arrays. It can perform ultrasonic inspection on any type of surface: rough, reflective, static or fast moving.

It achieves high sensitivity through a simplified optical set-up that avoids the need for optical path control, stabilization or compensation. It is priced in a range that is intended to enable manufacturers to perform non-contact thickness, crack and breakage inspection at an early stage in their production.
