Spar Aerospace Ltd. (Brampton, Ont., Canada) has developed a spectral camera system for detecting the presence of ice on the wings of aircraft. The ground-based system uses custom algorithms and optics, coupled with detector arrays, and has been licensed for production to Cox & Co. (New York, NY)--a maker of anti-icing and deicing systems--for $150,000 plus royalty payments.
