New biophotonics event to launch in Brazil in 2015

Aug. 28, 2014
The International Photodynamic Association (IPA) and SPIE will co-launch the first biophotonics- and biomedical optics-focused event in South America.

The International Photodynamic Association (IPA) and SPIE will co-launch the first biophotonics- and biomedical optics-focused event in South America. Called IPA 2015/SPIE Biophotonics South America and scheduled to take place May 23-26, 2015, in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, the event will provide fundamental and practical information on photodynamic therapy (PDT) and biophotonics.

Encouraging participation from early-career scholars and postgraduate researchers, the event will feature invited talks on relevant topics given by prominent representatives of the field as well as oral and poster contributions. It will also present special features related to the International Year of Light 2015 (IYOL 2015).

Specific topics to be covered at the event include:

  • PDT for cancer and microbiological control;
  • Photodynamic and photonic diagnostics;
  • PDT dosimetry;
  • Photonic instrumentation for life sciences;
  • Nano-biophotonics; and
  • Tissue microscopy
