Biophotonics program touts $6.6 million in available funding

The U.S. National Science Foundation (NSF) plans to award a maximum of 26 discretionary grants for basic research and innovation in biophotonics.

The U.S. National Science Foundation (NSF; Washington, DC) plans to award a maximum of 26 discretionary grants for basic research and innovation in biophotonics.

Targeted applications include nanophotonics, optogenetics, contrast and targeting agents, ultrathin probes, widefield imaging, and rapid biomarker screening, with low-cost and minimally invasive medical diagnostics and therapies as key goals, according to the NSF. The estimated total program funding available was cited as $6.6 million, with a ceiling of $600,000 for each award under this program.

This funding opportunity is open to any entity, such as state, county, city, township and special district governments; Native American tribal governments and organizations; institutions of higher education; Historically Black Colleges and Universities; Tribally Controlled Colleges and Universities; non-profits; for-profits; small businesses; eligible agencies of the federal government; and faith-based or community organizations.

The funding opportunity number is PD-12-7236 (CFDA 47.041), which was posted on June 8, with an application closing date of September 15.
