    Affymetrix to acquire flow cytometry, reagent firm eBioscience

    Microarray provider Affymetrix will acquire flow cytometry and immunoassay reagent maker eBioscience for $330 million—a purchase expected to close before the end of the year.

    Microarray provider Affymetrix (Santa Clara, CA) will acquire flow cytometry and immunoassay reagent maker eBioscience (San Diego, CA) for $330 million in cash—a purchase expected to close before the end of the year.

    The acquisition looks to provide Affymetrix with commercial opportunities in post-genomic applications of immunology, oncology, cell biology, stem cell biology, and diagnostics, as well as boost its growing molecular diagnostics business. Also, the company's product portfolio will now include multicolor flow cytometry reagents and a broad spectrum of reagents for the analysis of cytokines, growth factors, and other soluble proteins.

    Affymetrix expects to maintain eBioscience's management team and operations in San Diego.
