Provider of laser-based solutions, Coherent, Inc. (Santa Clara, CA) has expanded the company’s family of ultrafast amplifiers with the launch of the Legend Duo HE+, which delivers over 12 mJ/pulse at 1 kHz repetition rate. This amplifier is based on two-stage amplification to provide the ideal combination of high pulse energy with exceptional energy stability, pointing stability, and superior beam quality. Both amplifier stages use Coherent’s unique slab-rod design to enable efficient thermoelectric cooling. Applications for this amplifier include pump-probe spectroscopy using multiple optical parametric amplifiers (OPAs), high harmonic generation (HHG) to enable experiments in attosecond physics, generation of high power THz pulses, and photocathode illumination for applications in high-field physics.

Coherent Introduces Highest Pulse Energy Ultrafast Amplifier System

Santa Clara, Calif. – Coherent, Inc. (Santa Clara, CA) (Nasdaq: COHR) has expanded the company’s family of Legend ultrafast amplifiers with the launch of the Legend Duo HE+ which delivers over 12 mJ/pulse at 1 kHz repetition rate – by far the highest energy per pulse of any thermoelectrically cooled commercial ultrafast amplifier at this repetition rate. Avoiding the use of cryogenic cooling simplifies operation and maintenance, resulting in lower cost of ownership and higher uptime. In addition, the Legend Duo HE+ is intrinsically more stable than other commercial amplifiers because it uses components and subsystems specifically designed to support Carrier to Envelope Phase (CEP) stabilized operation, the ultrafast technology most sensitive to noise and stability.

The new Legend Duo HE+ is based on two-stage amplification to provide the ideal combination of high pulse energy with exceptional energy stability (< 0.5% rms), pointing stability (< 10 microrad rms) and superior beam quality (M2 < 1.5). Specifically, the seed input is amplified in a regenerative amplifier designed to ensure superior beam quality and stability. The output of this regenerative amplifier is then boosted to higher pulse energy by use of a single pass amplifier. Both amplifier stages use Coherent’s unique slab-rod design to enable efficient thermoelectric cooling of the Ti:Sapphire gain crystal and full exploitation of Coherent’s high energy (> 45 mJ) Evolution pump lasers.

Applications for the Legend Duo HE+ span several areas of research. Examples include pump-probe spectroscopy using multiple optical parametric amplifiers (OPAs), high harmonic generation (HHG) to enable experiments in attosecond physics, generation of high power THz pulses, and photocathode illumination for applications in high-field physics.

Founded in 1966, Coherent, Inc. is a Russell 2000 Index company and a world leader in providing laser-based solutions to the commercial and scientific research markets.
