The HSL-mini microelectromechanical systems (MEMS) scanner-based swept source from Santec (Komaki, Japan) scans at rates up to 50 kHz while maintaining a wide scan range over 160 nm for high-speed imaging or motion-sensitive optical coherence tomography (OCT), such as ophthalmology and endoscopy. An external cavity design with a diffraction grating maintains low relative intensity noise (RIN).

SANTEC unveils MEMS scanner based swept source, HSL-mini for high speed OCT

December 15, 2010

DECEMBER 15, 2010 - SANTEC corporation, a leading manufacturer of high speed swept laser sources for OCT, has introduced a new MEMS scanner based swept source that overcomes the speed limit of the polygon scanner based HSL series. The new source scans at faster rates, up to 50 kHz, while maintaining a wide scan range of over 160nm. These combined features provide significant technological advantages in ultra high-speed imaging or motion-sensitive applications, such as ophthalmology, endoscopy, etc. The MEMS scanner based system utilizes an external cavity design with a diffraction grating and ensures high specification performance as a swept source, maintaining low RIN, and high repeatability, and boasting industrial-class high reliability. Additionally, Santec supports the integration of the HSL into the customer’s systems, providing numerous options, and OCT system software.
