The Discovery C15 microscopy camera for biomedical imaging from Aven (Ann Arbor, MI) contains a scientific CMOS (sCMOS) sensor to yield 16 bit color gradation images, even in low contrast or poor lighting. The camera records video at 21 fps at full resolution (1270 × 1030), and records lower-resolution live images at 38 fps. Included ISCapture software allows adjustments to brightness, contrast, color balance, and other aspects, and enables calibration of lengths, angles, perimeter, and cubic area. A 0.5x reducer lens and two C-mount adapters enable use with any compatible microscope.

Aven Discovery Camera Introduces New Generation of Microscopy Imaging

ANN ARBOR, MI – Significant technology advances distinguish the latest microscopy camera from Aven, Inc. The Discovery C15 model is introduced for testing inspectors, scientific image analysts, biomedical researchers and other professionals who need a wide dynamic range and crisp, natural color reproduction in any lighting.

The camera's Scientific CMOS sensor and extremely low readout noise level provide detail-rich images at publication quality levels.

"This camera is called Discovery because users discover a remarkable new imaging experience, compared to conventional CCD cameras," says Aven president Mike Shahpurwala. "In addition to its ultra-low noise and high sensitivity in bright field or dark field applications, the C15 comes with professional image capture software."

Images can be saved in four formats or as AVI video files with the ISCapture program, which has a broad range of management and processing functions for Windows users. Images can be located and documented easily, thanks to screen displays showing each file name, capture date and time, bit depth, resolution and digital size.

Processing tools allow adjustments to brightness, contrast, color balance and other aspects. Users can rotate images and zoom. Measurement functions allow calibration of lengths, angles, perimeter and cubic area. (Discovery C15 also works with Aven's EZ Measure software.)

The new sCMOS sensor chip's low noise level and high range yield a 16-bit smooth color gradation image, even in low contrast or poor lighting.

Video is recorded at 21 frames per second at full resolution (1270 x 1030), which is comparable to high-definition television quality. Lower-resolution live images can be recorded at 38 fps.

In addition to the ISCapture software, Aven's Discovery C15 comes with a 0.5x reducer lens two C-mount adapters for use with any compatible microscope. It features manual or automatic exposure control and white balance.

"This sophisticated microscopy accessory adds efficiency and precision for applications in aerospace, medical imaging, R&D and quality assurance," says Shahpurwala.
