Dental laser maker Biolase has received FDA approval for its Epic Pro dental diode laser system.

Dental laser maker Biolase (Irvine, CA) has received FDA approval for its Epic Pro dental diode laser system. The laser offers important advancements in cutting speed, control, precision, and improvements in consistency and predictability.

The Epic Pro is the first commercially available laser system resulting from the company's strategic development agreement with IPG Medical (Oxford, MA), a subsidiary of IPG Photonics, reached in 2015.

Biolase president and CEO Harold C. Flynn, Jr. says that the laser allows the company to access the oral and maxillofacial surgeon markets, which previously had not been interested in diode lasers. Its worldwide launch is now underway, with systems available for delivery in the U.S. and select international markets, he notes.
