Genome sequencing technology developer and maker Pacific Biosciences (NASDAQ:PACB; Menlo Park, CA) and nanoelectronics research center Imec (Leuven, Belgium) will enter into a multi-year research collaboration focused on developing advanced microchips for highly multiplexed, single-molecule genetic analysis.

The project will build on Pacific Biosciences’ proprietary zero-mode waveguide (ZMW), single-molecule real-time (SMRT) technology and imec’s expertise in nanophotonics, CMOS sensors, technology integration, and fabrication.

The two organizations will identify ways to bring greater economies of scale to Pacific Biosciences' technology through nanoscale semiconductor fabrication, explains Luc Van den hove, CEO and president of Imec.
