LaserGen, National Instruments team to boost DNA sequencing

July 15, 2011
LaserGen and National Instruments have teamed to develop a new, next-generation sequencing (NGS) system, with its initial use for demonstrating accurate sequencing of the E. coli genome.

LaserGen (Houston, TX) and National Instruments (Austin, TX) have teamed to develop a new, next-generation sequencing (NGS) system, with its initial use for demonstrating accurate DNA sequencing of the E. coli genome. The system will use LaserGen's Lightning Terminators, a sequencing chemistry for reversible terminators, and National Instruments' graphical system design software for control, imaging and instrumentation. Then, the collaboration companies intend to complete development of their NGS system and install it at a leading genome center for validation testing by the end of 2011.

Initial throughput specifications of the LaserGen and National Instruments system will be greater than one gigabase per day, and system and reagents costs have yet to be released.
