LightWorks Optical Systems named finalist in high-tech awards program
The Orange County Technology Alliance (OC Tech Alliance; Mission Viejo, CA) has named optics maker LightWorks Optical Systems (Murrieta, CA) as a finalist in the Hardware Device category of their annual High-Tech Innovation Awards for the company's iCell system. iCell integrates pulsed laser microbeam irradiation and polymer microdevices, according to the company, to better understand cell behavior and disease progression.
Dr. Mat Ras, principal program manager at LightWorks Optical Systems, explains that iCell provides a low-cost live cell selection and separation technology to speed drug discovery and development and, as a result, enable potential cures to major diseases with reduced healthcare costs over time.

Now in its 20th year, the High-Tech Innovation Awards program celebrates achievements amongst the regional technology industry by honoring local companies, individuals, and products that drive innovation in Orange County. The association will announce all winners at a gala dinner on October 15, 2013, at the Hilton Costa Mesa (Costa Mesa, CA).
In addition to the product awards, the OC Tech Alliance will recognize excellence among chief executives leading Orange County-based tech companies, as well as local tech companies innovating in the areas of product development, financial accountability, and industry leadership. OC Tech Alliance will also celebrate educators and students for their creative use of science, math, and technology in the classroom and the community in conjunction with Project Tomorrow.
