History:

 

Sierra-Olympic Technologies, Inc. was founded in 1995 as a sales representation firm for advanced, cooled infrared camera technologies developed by Amber, a Raytheon company. The founders' experience dates back to the earliest commercially-available, cooled InSb cameras developed in the late 1980’s. In 2010, the company was acquired by Hood Technology Corporation of Hood River, OR.

 

Sierra-Olympic's expertise dates back to the earliest commercially-available cooled MWIR Indium Antimonide (InSb) focal plane arrays, and spans virtually all modern FPA-based infrared imaging technologies.  We have grown to become one of the largest consumers of cooled MWIR component technology in the world.  We support leading technologies in uncooled microbolometer FPAs, and we have extensive experience in infrared optics development and integration, and sensor-processor interfaces.

 

With roots in the Western USA, Sierra-Olympic now services customers worldwide with consistent dedication to advanced technologies, exportable EAR products, and custom development of camera engines for a wide range of applications.

DRS’s Image Contrast Enhancement (ICE) algorithm, available on the company’s Tenum 640 (top) and other of its cameras, is based upon the company’s patented Enhanced Multiresolution Local Area Processing (emLAP); DRS says that emLAP stably preserves the maximum visual content throughout the spectrum of the original sensor output with a user-definable degree of detail enhancement (lower images). EmLAP maps wide-dynamic-range sensor data into a clear lower-dynamic-range image sequence with smooth and stable transitions, including between dramatically different scene dynamics and temperature extremes. Notice that in the typical image at left, the firefighter is almost invisible. More details are visible in the low mode at center. In the highly enhanced image at right, many more details are visible, including a building that can be seen through the open window.
Longwave-infrared focal-plane arrays enable a vast number of near-room-temperature thermal-imaging applications.
The Vayu HD is an uncooled thermal camera with true HD (1920 × 1200 pixels), and is capable of 1080p output.
The Viento HD IP67 is a full HD 1080p thermal camera with an IP67 environmentally rated enclosure.
The Viento-GT thermographically calibrated thermal camera is available in enclosed or split-board form factors.
The Viento-G thermal camera is available in either enclosed or split-board form factor that can use either 320 × 240 or 640 × 480 resolution detectors.
The Viento 67-640 thermal camera for perimeter surveillance, robotics, and other outdoor imaging applications features a fixed focal length and fixed mount.
Wide-dynamic-range, InGaAs shortwave infrared sensors and camera systems deliver a dynamic range >140 dB per snapshot, without any processing or tone mapping.
The longwave-infrared (LWIR) CX640 thermography camera features a 640 × 480 uncooled imaging array with 17 µm pixels.
The Viento 640 thermal imager features a 640 × 480 × 17 micron uncooled vanadium oxide focal plane array.
The Vinden CZ 640 cameras deliver H.264/MJPEG IP-video for Ethernet connectivity and simultaneous CameraLink digital and analog NTSC/PAL video.
