Santa Barbara Infrared and Labsphere partner to develop integrated E-O test systems

March 28, 2017
The two companies have merged their engineering expertise in hardware and software to offer turnkey, fully-calibrated solutions.

Santa Barbara Infrared (SBIR; Santa Barbara, CA), a manufacturer of infrared (IR) and electro-optical (E-O) test hardware for aerospace and defense, has partnered with Labsphere (North SuttonNH) to develop a family of E-O test systems. The two companies have merged their engineering expertise in hardware and software to offer turnkey, fully-calibrated solutions.

The collaboration has resulted in Colosus family of systems, which include collimated optics, software, and uniform sources, and provide complete test solutions for optical characterization of sensors and cameras. Labsphere’s director of marketing for remote sensing, Chris Durell, says, “Due to our combined market and application knowledge, SBIR and Labsphere are ideally suited to bring an unprecedented solution, from the UV to LWIR, for sensor fusion and today’s E-O system performance needs.”

The companies are showing the Colosus family of calibrated 0.3 to 14+ micron E-O test systems at SPIE’s Defense & Commercial Sensing (DCS), Anaheim, CA, April 11-13, 2017. Founded in 1986, SBIR became a leader in EO test instrumentation. In 1999, SBIR became part of HEICO Corporation, an aerospace company based in Hollywood, FL. Labsphere was founded in 1979, and is now part of the Halma group of companies, with a satellite facility in China and a global network of distribution partners.
